Party on Global Travelers! In August 2016 the National Park Service will have it’s 100th birthday. Celebrate with a group or science trip to one or more of the 58 National Parks found here in the U.S. From Acadia National Park in Maine to Zion National Park in Utah and all throughout our great country, teachers can partner with us to take their students on a great trip that will change their life. Our Gtrek science and adventure division is lead by a group of specialists who know how to help teachers implement programs that connect students with the natural world, solidify concepts learned in the classroom, conduct outdoor research, and engage students in a variety of different conservation service programs. Our National Parks are not just scenically beautiful but they are also a critical component to our great and historic American Heritage.
The First National Park
Not only is Yellowstone National Park right in our backyard (click here to see our office locations), but did you know it was also the first national park to ever be established? It also launched the modern day conservation movement and became a model for conservation efforts throughout the entire world. The Largest National Park
At 13.2 million acres, Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve could fit the country of Switzerland, Yellowstone National Park, and Yosemite National Park within its borders. It’s home to the second tallest mountain in North America – Mount St. Elias (18,008 ft) about 300 miles East of Anchorage, Alaksa, and the world’s longest valley glacier – Nabesna Glacier at 53 miles long. The Highest Biodiversity Index
School children were some of the earliest donors to help fund the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in Tennessee. Students continue helping today as an on-going biodiversity survey (that students have helped with) has counted that the Great Smokey Mountains National Park houses more than 17,000 species of plants and animals. Although the final tally of living organisms here hasn’t been counted, scientists estimate that the grand total could end up at 100,000.
